Family sessions are $99 for less than 10 individuals. For more than 10 individuals the session fee is $199. Session fees are due within 48 hours of booking to reserve your date and time. Sessions typically last about an hour and 1 outfit change is permitted. Sessions may be at the studio or on location. Here are a few tips to help make your session great!
Please note that session fees do not include digital images or products.
Choose your clothing in advance. Look for items that will be comfortable and will allow you to move without much restriction. Think about the type of family portraits that you are wanting. If you are wanting soft and elegant choose neutral colors with soft, flowing fabrics...think creams, soft pastels, light browns, tans, grays and slate blues. Want to showcase the fun and spunky side of your family? Choose coordinating colors (but not matchy, matchy) with bold accent colors, such as hues of gray with yellow or bright red accents. Adding fun scarves, headbands, hats, etc. can add a modern sassy flair to your images. Don't put everyone in busy patterns. For example, if your husband is wearing vertical stripes you do not want to wear horizontal stripes. Try to avoid everyone in white; white tends to not photograph well and can be boring. Look on Pinterest to see some great matching ideas.
Be certain not to schedule your session around your child's nap or bedtime. The best time for lighting for outdoor sessions is two hours before sunset and two hours after sunrise. If this is a bad time for your children, please let us know. Try to make sure that everyone has a full tummy and bring along some snacks for your children if needed, don't forget drinks for everyone!
Look your best!
Moms are usually rushing around frazzled trying to make sure everyone is dressed, clean and ready to go that they tend to overlook themselves. Mom, take time for yourself. Get your hair and make-up done professionally if possible. If not, take enough time get yourself ready before focusing on everyone else. When a family shows up rushed and disorganized it can make the entire session start off wrong. If you need to change clothes at the studio, then that's okay. Feel free to bring along any beauty products that you might need to make any final adjustments. Do not get fresh hair cuts the day before the session. Instead try to arrange for them to be done one week prior to the session. The same thing goes for tanning or spray tanning, try to not do either too close to the time of the session.
Dads, I ask that you please cheerfully participate. We know that dads dread the family portrait session, but fathers, please understand that capturing your family is so important. If you are reluctant to participant then your children may be as well. A lot of time, money, and energy goes into organizing a session so you want your portraits to be amazing! Family portraits are treasured by generations to come.
Cheese is for Crackers!
Please, please, please leave the "cheese" at home. I will get your children to smile. Yelling and demanding that they smile at a camera will only stress your children out and will lead to strained, unnatural, and unflattering photographs. Step back, and all us to interact with your children and we will make those natural smiles happen. This should be a fun time for your children and we want to see their personalities, not their tears. Feel free to bring their favorite stuffed animals or toys along.
Pets are absolutely welcome at all outdoor sessions. Unfortunately, I cannot allow them into the studio do to insurance reasons, but please feel free to bring friendly pets with you. If you intend to bring your pet, please advise Lorrie at booking.
Want an outdoor session but not sure where to do it at? Just ask. AFP can make several suggestions of great locations.
